Earlier today, reports surfaced that the New England Patriots have their mitts on a copy of the New York Jets defensive playbook. One of the rumors was that Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban provided the playbook, but now Saban is saying that report has no truth.

More from New England Patriots

Saban and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick are good friends, so it was understandable that the rumors surfaced.

However, Saban claims he is too much of a professional to ever do such a thing.

According to Kevin Armstrong of the New York Daily News, Saban claims “he never gave copy of Jets playbook to Patriots and never would.”

The comment was provided by an Alabama spokesman.

We can now put those conspiracy theories to rest, even though it would have presented a very interesting story line leading up to the season.

The good news, however, is that the fact we are getting stories like this to surface in the news cycle which means the NFL regular season is just around the corner.

For fans of America’s new favorite pastime, there couldn’t be any better news.
