If you haven’t heard the term selfie, then you have more than likely been living under a very large sound proof rock for the last few years.
Everywhere you go, be it Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, or any of the other million or so social media sites that are out there on the internet, there is someone you know who has posted a selfie or two in their time.
The question of the day is, who really created the trend known as “selfie?”
While the answer to this burning question is highly unlikely to ever be truly uncovered, I can tell you a little bit about two ladies who were doing it long before it was ever “cool.”
Over twenty three years ago, yes…I know this is an entire lifetime for some of you, there was this little movie called Thelma & Louise where a housewife by the name of Thelma Dickinson, played by Geena Davis, and a waitress known as Louise Sawyer, played by Susan Sarandon, head out in a Ford Thunderbird convertible on what turns out to be one of the wildest, and sometimes scary, road trips that you could possibly imagine.
Along the way, they turn their Polaroid camera on themselves and essentially take one of the world’s first selfies, which you can see above.
It would seem as if the two lovely ladies are back at it again, as Susan Sarandon took to her Twitter page to post a brand new selfie twenty three years in the making.

So, there you have it, folks. Proof positive that Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis were rocking it in selfies long before it was ever cool, or the term selfie even truly existed.
