France just nailed the dagger in Switzerland late in the first half of their Group E matchup that is currently airing live on ESPN from Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, Brazil.

After scoring two back to back goals in the 17th minute, France padded their lead and all but secured a victory and the three points when Mathieu Valbuena scored a right footed shot from very close range in the 40th minute off an incredible cross from Olivier Giroud. The goal came on a fast break after a great defensive play.

The goal came only eight minutes after Karim Benzema missed a penalty kick in an attempt to go up 3-0.

France’s offense has been unstoppable in the World Cup thus far, scoring three goals in both games. Will they add on to their tally in the second half? We will find out soon enough.

Switzerland would need a miracle to come back in this game, but do not expect them to just give up in the second half. If anything, the team is playing for pride and the possibility to make an incredible comeback.
