Straight Outta Compton, the upcoming film based on the ground breaking gangster rap group N.W.A., has released it’s first picture of the lead cast, alongside two of the men they will be playing. The man in the middle is the film’s director.
The biopic tells the story of Eazy-E, Ice Cube, and Dr. Dre as they fought racism, mainstream music, and each other in the process of carving out a new genre of music and finding both personal and critical success. Today we get a first look at the actors that will be playing the three main characters of N.W.A.
Originally cast to play the young Dr. Dre, Michael B. Jordan had to drop out due to his filming schedule as the Human Torch in the reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise. It was reported by The Hollywood reporter last week that Jordan was the top personal choice of Dre himself. That role now goes to Corey Hawkins who has had roles in Iron Man 3 and most recently Non-Stop with Liam Neeson.
As reported last week, Ice Cube’s own son, O’Shea Jackson, Jr. will play the part of Cube and their is little doubt that he looks like his father. It will be Jackson, Jr.’s first acting role. Jason Mitchell will play the part of Eazy-E who passed away in 1995 due to complications from AIDS. The film will be directed by F. Gary Gray and is scheduled for an August, 2015 release.
