It’s hard to say how close the Golden State Warriors may have gotten to obtaining Kevin Love in a presumed three-team deal that would have sent Klay Thompson to the Los Angeles Lakers, but what we do know is that those trade talks haven’t progressed and the Golden State Warriors don’t feel confident about any deal – at least right now.

More from Golden State Warriors

According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Warriors feel they put forth their best effort in attempts to acquire Love but after continually being rebuffed, no deal is expected.

“Warriors made their best run at Kevin Love and were turned away — could change, but Warriors not expecting a deal.”

Of course, we’ve heard this plenty of times before when a team feels they’re out of the race to acquire a player (at least publicly) only to trade for them down the road, so it’s hard to completely buy into the fact that the Golden State Warriors are out of the Kevin Love race.

Unlike a lot of the other teams attempting to trade for Love, the Warriors do have some solid veteran players who the Minnesota Timberwolves are said to have interest in, so the two teams do appear to have some potential trade chips that would interest the other.

Matching up salaries then becomes a problem and involving a third-team often gets messy, but despite the Warriors’ public assumption that a deal is all but dead, I wouldn’t go that far until Love is wearing a different uniform.
