After going 1-1 in the UFC’s lightweight division, the promotion has announced that Ernest Chavez is moving to featherweight and will fight Mirsad Bektic on August 23rd.
Chavez (7-1) is coming off a submission loss to Elias Silverio at the TUF Brazil III Finale, after earning a split decision over Yosdenis Cedeno at UFC 170. This will be Chavez’s first UFC fight at featherweight, after competing in the lightweight division during his first two bouts.
Bektic (8-0) made his Octagon debut in April, and worked his way to a majority decision win over Chas Skelly. The 23-year old Bektic trains at American Top Team, and is a veteran of RFA.
UFC officials announced the bout this week. The fight is likely to air on the preliminary portion of the UFC Fight Night 49 card.
UFC Fight Night 49 will feature a lightweight bout between former UFC Lightweight champion Benson Henderson and Rafael dos Anjos, as well as a welterweight fight between former title contender Thiago Alves and Jordan Mein.

UFC Fight Night 49 takes place from the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August. 23. The card will air on Fox Sports 1, with preliminary bouts airing prior on UFC Fight Pass.
