The Chicago Bulls basically scoffed at the idea of adding Carmelo Anthony earlier in the season much like they’ve scoffed at the idea of parting ways with Carlos Boozer and his bad contract. Now it seems both things will be happening, only they won’t be transactions that cross paths at all.

More from Chicago Bulls

Chicago wants to acquire Carmelo Anthony and to do so they’ll need to shed Boozer’s awful contract, likely through an amnesty. They’ve been hanging onto their 2011-12 amnesty clause to use it on Boozer — everyone knows that — but even though they are in a perfect situation to use it on him, Chicago is going to try and trade Boozer before they cut him and eat his salary.

According to K.C. Johnson from the Chicago Tribune, the Knicks may be interested in a deal involving Carmelo Anthony, but they’re not at all interested in taking back Carlos Boozer’s terrible contract in a sign-and-trade for Melo.

"However, league sources continue to indicate that despite Boozer’s expiring $16.8 million deal dovetailing with the Knicks’ plan for massive salary-cap space in 2015, the Knicks have no interest in acquiring Boozer as of now."

This was one of the factors we expected might play a role in getting a deal done but the Knicks aren’t interested in taking on Boozer even if his expiring deal might help them clear up cap space for 2015. The bottom line is, the Bulls likely won’t be able to trade Boozer anywhere and that amnesty clause will have to be used at some point this summer.
