The Los Angeles Lakers do own the No. 7 pick in the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft, but they don’t have the needed assets to obtain Kevin Love in a trade, do they? It certainly doesn’t seem that way, but we’ve seen the Los Angeles Lakers pull a rabbit out of their hat on more than one occasion so it wouldn’t exactly be shocking if they somehow did acquire the All-Star power forward.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

That’s also the sense of two NBA executives, who speaking to the Journal Times, suggested that they believe Love will end up with the Los Angeles Lakers despite the fact that many believe the Golden State Warriors are in the lead to acquire his services.

“Two NBA executives, when asked where they thought Minnesota star forward Kevin Love would end up, said the Los Angeles Lakers,” says Gery Woelfel, “even though Golden State appears to be the front-runners for his services.”

The executives were obviously unnamed so we don’t know in what capacity they work, though it’s still of interesting note given they have plenty more inside information than most.

Still, straight up it doesn’t look like the Lakers would have the needed pieces to entice the Minnesota Timberwolves to trade their star player, so a three-team deal (as was alleged earlier this week, ironically involving the Lakers) would likely need to be hatched for such a deal to be found.

For now, it appears to be nothing but educated guesses on behalf of the NBA executives but it’s something worth keeping an eye on, no doubt, given their ties to the situation.
