The show is famous for its blind auditions that keep the contestants’ faces hidden from the judges, forcing them to make decisions based solely on the performer’s voice.

As the show progresses, the coaches/judges work with their personally selected artists in hopes to gain home audience votes to win the contest.  In years past, the show has featured, CeeLo Green, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, and Usher, all having served as coaches alongside Levine and Shelton.

In a joint interview in May, announcing the additions of Stefani and Williams, both talked about what it meant for them to be a part of the show.

"“I’m trying to pinch myself — is this really happening?”, said Stefani.“It’s magical, it’s serendipitous. We’ve always had a special connection, and it was always through music that we recognized each other’s admiration and the depths [that] there was such potential,” Williams said about his relationship with Stefani.  He then added some of his strategy advice. “My advice is always gonna have a consistent thread of, ‘Be you. If it doesn’t work for this show, that’s okay.’ … You’ll see what Gwen and I do. We’re gonna take a slightly different approach. All we’re gonna do is hold up the mirror and show people how rad they are already.”"

The show is set to debut its new season on September 22 on the NBC Network.
