Although talks of a three-team trade which would have sent Kevin Love to the Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson to the Los Angeles Lakers appear to be dead, that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning. It’s not known if the teams will re-kindle their talks but if they do and Klay Thompson does eventually find his way to Southern California, he wouldn’t exactly be heartbroken.

More from Golden State Warriors

According to Thompson’s father, Mychal, Klay would be ‘thrilled’ to play with the Lakers organization and alongside Kobe Bryant.

“But if he got traded to the Lakers, he would make the most of it. He would be happy to be here (in Los Angeles). Kobe (Bryant) is his idol. If he had a chance to play with Kobe, he said he’d be thrilled to play with Kobe. If he stays with Golden State, hey, it’s fine.”

Klay of course grew up as a Lakers fan considering his father spent the best years of his career with the organization, so, it would be somewhat of a coming home reunion for the Thompson family.

Unfortunately for Klay Thompson however, the trade doesn’t appear to have much life at this point and the Lakers (unless they were willing to give up the No. 7 pick, which the Warriors may not have enough interest in regardless) don’t have the needed assets to obtain Thompson without the help of the Timberwolves.

For now, it looks like Klay will be happily stuck in the Bay Area, which isn’t so bad itself.
