One of the most iconic moments in wrestling history may not have happened, if Stone Cold Steve Austin got his way. At least according to former WWE writer Vince Russo
According to Russo, Austin had no desire to drive the beer truck to the ring during a famous segment in which he drenched the McMahons will gallons of Coors Light. Instead, Austin was set on simply driving a pickup truck to the ring.
Here’s what Vince Russo had to say about the matter on a column for WhatCulture:
“In the epic scene on “Raw”, when Steve Austin drove a beer truck into the arena, I actually had to talk Steve into it! The Texas Rattlesnake said he just wanted to enter in his pick-up. He didn’t “see” the beer truck. However, once the segment was produced, I think Steve totally understand the impact that it was going to have on the fans for many years to come. It was truly, one of the most classic scenes in the history of “Monday Night Raw”. Thankfully I talked him round, he didn’t go with the pick up, riding in instead with the beer truck, driving his way into wrestling history.”
Austin became known for driving different vehicles to the ring, including a bloodmobile, a Zamboni, a cement truck, a pickup truck, a four wheeler, and many others.
Russo, who has been known to embellish…heavily, will also appear on Stone Cold Steve Austin’s podcast. Just last week, the WWE also sent out a survey which mentioned the possibility of Austin’s program airing live on the WWE Network.
