The month of July is nearly here, which means that it’s almost time for the annual ESPY Awards, recognizing some of the best individual and team accomplishments in sports throughout the past year.

Each year in the middle of July, ESPN holds the event out in Los Angeles, and it has become one of the more popular sporting events of the calendar year, with the best of the best showing up for the festivities.

Voting for the awards this year began on Tuesday and will run through July 16. Also on Tuesday, the candidates for the various categories were released.

Here’s a look at the candidates for Best Male Athlete of the Year:

  • Miguel Cabrera- MLB
  • Peyton Manning- NFL
  • Kevin Durant- NBA
  • Floyd Mayweather- Boxing

Now, here’s a look at the candidates for Female Athlete of the Year:

  • Maya Moore- WNBA
  • Ronda Rousey- MMA
  • Mikaela Shiffrin- Alpine Skiing
  • Breanna Stewart- Women’s College Basketball

All eight of these individuals are more than deserving of receiving their respective honor, but on July 16, only one can walk away with the statue.
