World Cup Bracket update: Colombia, Greece advance thanks to late penalty

Group C came to a thrilling finish to distract everyone from the incident and chaos in Group D. Ivory Coast was holding on to a draw late in the game against Greece when they, specifically Giovanni Sio, gave up a penalty.

Georgios Samaras, who drew the foul, stepped up to the spot to take the kick and buried it in the back of the net. It then sets up another pair of World Cup round of 16 match ups. Colombia, the winners of Group C, play Uruguay, the runner-ups of Group D. Costa Rica, the winners of Group D, will take on Greece, the runner ups of Group C.

That also means we have five South American teams in the “Round of 16,” five out of ten that have punched a ticket at the moment. At the moment, two of the determined four match ups will pit South American teams against one another.

Brazil will play Chile and of course Colombia will play Uruguay. Argentina looks likely to win Group F, and if Ecuador, who currently sit in third place, finish as runner-ups in Group E we could see three games pitting South American teams against one another in the Round of 16.
