World Cup Bracket Update: Costa Rica, Uruguay into the round of 16

It was a shocking set of events during the first round of games on Tuesday. Costa Rica and England ended in a scoreless draw, ensuring that Costa Rica would win Group D, the “Group of Champions.” Ironically, Costa Rica is the only team in the group to have not won the World Cup.

Italy and Uruguay were playing for second place to determine who would join Costa Rica in the “Round of 16.” It was a game unlike any you’ll ever see. There was a red card early in the second half that left Italy playing a man down, but they only needed a draw to advance.

Uruguay’s Luis Suarez bit an opponent, for the third time of his career. He wasn’t penalized, allowed to stay on the field and Uruguay scored moments later to take the lead, advancing to the next round and eliminating Italy in the process.
