Mad Max: Fury Road on Entertainment Weekly cover

The next issue of Entertainment Weekly will bring with it some of the first images from the next chapter of the Mad Max saga. The cover of the entertainment magazine features new images of Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy who plays the title character. Theron plays a commander named Imperator Furiosa. In the image she appears to have one arm that has a partial mechanical prosthetic.

The film will mark the fourth appearance on the big screen for Mad Max and the first in 3o years. Mel Gibson made the role famous with Mad Max: The Road Warrior, and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. It was the vehicle that propelled Gibson onto the Hollywood scene. To this day, Gibson is best remembered for his role as the cop-turned-outlaw after the murder of his wife and young son.

"“I wanted to tell a linear story–a chase that starts as the movie begins and continues for 110 minutes,” series creator George Miller told the magazine about the upcoming film. “In this crucible of very intense action, the characters are revealed.”"

The film is set to open in 2015 and centers once again on Max as he struggles with the death of his family. He leaves the Main Force Patrol and tries to survive on his own on the outskirts of the Australian Outback, only to clash with a motorcycle gang led by Theron’s Furiosa.

The film is directed by George Miller, who has directed every film in the franchise from his own screenplays. The film has been in the making for 25 years, but financial difficulties, bad scripts, and real life problems with shooting locations have kept the film from being made.

In 2009, Miller showed off props that would be used as the wastelands vehicles prompting many to believe the film was finally ready to move forward, now five years later we are seeing his ideas and imagination come to fruition.

The film also stars Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nathan Jones, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and will open in 2015. The new Entertainment Weekly magazine should hit your mailboxes this week.
