Longtime UFC veteran Thiago Tavares has decided to move to featherweight, and will make his divisional debut against Robert Peralta at UFC Fight Night 47 in Maine. UFC officials announced the bout this week.
Tavares has been fighting under the Zuffa banner since 2007, accumulating a 10-5-1 record along the way. The Brazilian has not fought since 2013, following a positive test for the banned substance drostanolone. The 29-year-old failed the test after a brutal knockout at the hands of Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC on FX 7. He now re-enters the fray at 145 pounds.
Peralta will see a quick turnaround right after a close split decision win against TUF: Brazil winner Rony Jason on May 31. Prior to that victory in Brazil, Peralta stopped Estevan Payan with punches at UFC 168.
UFC Fight Night 47 will be headlined by top-15 ranked light heavyweights Ovince St. Preux and Ryan Bader, as they battle to move up the ranks in a shallow 205 pound division.
The current fight card is below:
Ryan Bader vs. Ovince Saint Preux
Tim Boetsch vs. Brad Tavares
Shawn Jordan vs. Jack May
Sam Alvey vs. Tom Watson
Robbie Peralta vs. Thiago Tavares
UFC Fight Night 47 takes place from the Cross insurance Center in Bangor, Maine on August 16. The card will air on Fox Sports 1, following prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
