The NBA Draft is underway and the picks are starting to finally fly off the board. After months of waiting in anticipation, the draft is now finally showing us where the prospects we’ve watched over the last few years will go.

More from Boston Celtics

After watching a few surprises early on in the draft, specifically the Orlando Magic shocking everyone by taking Aaron Gordon No. 4 overall, the Boston Celtics were sitting with the sixth pick looking at more options than they thought they were going to have. That didn’t make the decision any easier though as the Celtics had been eyeing Gordon  which may open up the possibility for a trade following the pick, but it’s hard to argue with the direction Boston went.

With the No. 6 overall pick in the draft, the Boston Celtics selected Marcus Smart from Oklahoma State.

The pick was one that the celtics were probably hoping ended up being Dante Exum, but he went a pick earlier to the Utah Jazz. Still, Smart is being touted as possibly the best guard out of the two so it’s not as though the Celtics got ripped off at No. 6 overall. With Rajon Rondo in Boston — for now — he will be able to take Smart under his wing and teach him how to become the point guard of the future for the Celtics.
