When does NBA Free Agency start?

The NBA Draft is now over and the question fans now have is what’s next? We’ve seen a new NBA champion crowned, we’ve watched as the next generation of players enter the league and we are all waiting for what next season will bring.

But before we can get too deep into our basketball depression with there being nothing going on, we need to remember that free agency is almost here and there are some massive names hitting the open market who will no doubt make this an exciting summer.
Not everyone knows when free agency opens though as it’s a date the NBA doesn’t really advertise much. The official start to free agency is on July 1st as that’s when teams can start signing players who have either had their contracts expire or have opted out of their current deals.
LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are the top two free agents on the market and they will be in no rush to sign anywhere this summer. Both will take their time to decide where they want to play next and that means the summer will be filled with plenty of drama from both players.
They aren’t the only big names to hit the open market, as plenty of other solid players are looking for work this summer. The conversation will be dominated by LeBron and Melo, but the pool of free agents hitting the market will be one that lots of teams pay close attention to and it’s going to no doubt be an exciting summer to say the least.
