NHL Draft 2014: First round draft order

After months of anticipation, NHL Draft day is finally here.

The first 13 picks of this year’s draft were determined via the 2014 NHL Draft Lottery back in April. The Florida Panthers, who finished just ahead of the Buffalo Sabres in the standings, won the lottery for the right to select first overall. The remaining selections were determined based on teams’ performances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Some notes regarding the first-round draft order:

  • New Jersey picks 30th due to the sanctions placed on the club for the Ilya Kovalchuk contract.
  • Anaheim gets Ottawa’s first-round pick as part of the Bobby Ryan trade
  • Tampa Bay gets the New York Rangers’ first-round pick as part of the Ryan Callahan/Martin St. Louis trade
