NHL Draft 2014: Pittsburgh Penguins draft grade

With the 22nd overall selection in the 2014 NHL Draft, the Pittsburgh Penguins selected right winger Kasperi Kapanen out of KalPa, Finland.

This has to be my favorite pick of the night. The highest rated European in the draft, Kapanen remarkable fell all the way down to the 22nd slot where the Penguins wasted no time in picking him up.

Kapanen has high-end offensive skill that could lead to him being one of the most prolific scorers out of this draft class. He won’t wow you defensively, but he’ll give the Penguins just enough to justify him getting a large chunk of minutes once he gets to the NHL level.

The only major knock on Kapanen, which I feel led to his slide, was the question regarding whether or not his work ethic is up to NHL standards. Still, this player and this spot should make Penguins fans as happy as can be right now.

Final Grade: A
