Tiger Woods is trying to fight his way back once again, but his latest comeback is off to a rocky start. Friday afternoon Woods missed the cut at the Quicken Loans National by shooting a 4-over 75. Despite sporting a menacing goatee, Woods was seven over in two days of grinding at Congressional.

Tiger’s day started going downhill on the par 4 No. 5 when he made double-bogey. Another bogey on No. 8 had him heading into a total tailspin, but he recovered with birdies on No. 9 and No. 10.

But another bogey on 11 once again put the arrow in Sad Tiger position. More bogeys on 12, 13 and 14 pretty much sealed his fate.

With a few players still out on the course, the cut line sat at +3 and Tiger was at +7. That’s not hard math to do.

Woods is of course battling back from physical issues including a bad back, but after his first round he said the back wasn’t a problem. “The back’s great. I had no issues at all,” Woods said via USA Today. “No twinges, no nothing. It felt fantastic.”

So the back wasn’t what stopped him, it was the rust on his game. Tiger is just hoping to get things going in the right direction so he can compete in the year’s last two majors. He already has missed two chances at a major title this year by bowing out of the Masters and the US Open.

History is slipping away from Tiger Woods. But there’s always Denny’s.
