NBA Rumors: Rajon Rondo won't inspire a trade bidding war

The NBA Draft is now behind us and free agency is the next big step for tams looking to improve their rosters. But just because a player isn’t hitting free agency doesn’t mean he too won’t be pursued by other teams as Kevin Love will be getting just as much attention as Carmelo Anthony despite the fact that one of them is still under contract.

Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo is a regular subject of trade rumors in the NBA and the fact that his team drafted Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart the other night has once again sparked rumors that he’ll be on his way out of Beantown soon. But we probably shouldn’t expect to see a flurry of activity like we’re seeing with Kevin Love, even if Rondo is still one of the more elite players int he game.

According to the Boston Herald, one rival general manager has stated that not many teams are interested in getting into a bidding war to acquire Rondo and that he’s just not the type of player you blow up your roster and sell your future to get.

“You’re not going to get a bidding war over Rondo,” said one NBA general manager. “He’s a great player, and teams have interest in him, but they’re not going to rearrange their world to make a run at him like they would for some people.”

Rondo is nearing the end of his deal with the Celtics and it seems as though Boston is trying to find a way to make it work so that they can have both Rondo and Smart on the floor at the same time. That’s the best case scenario for all involved but the Celtics want to keep Rondo for as long as they can and their asking price for him likely hasn’t changed much in the last few years even is his value to other teams has.
