Houston Rockets’ forward Chandler Parsons was not expected to hit the open market this offseason.

More from Houston Rockets

Parsons had one of the most friendly contracts in the entire league. He has made less than one million dollars in each of his first three seasons and was set to do so again next season. Instead, the Rockets declined the option on Parsons’ fourth year and he is set to become a restricted free agent once free agency officially begins on Tuesday. Although the Rockets can match any offer sheet Parsons signs, several teams, including the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers, are expected to pursue Parsons.

Parsons is excited to become a free agent.

“When I got drafted in the second round, I signed the four-year deal and everyone has to go through their rookie scale,” Parsons told Yahoo Sports. “It was all part of the process. I obviously thought I deserved more. But I never was bitter or jealous of anyone making more than me. I was just fortunate enough to do this for a living.”

Parsons is also happy to be getting a big contract earlier than he originally thought.

“I feel like I’m in a win-win situation because it’s happening a year early,” Parsons said. “I think a lot of teams could be interested. With the way I play and my versatility, I feel I can pretty much help any team.”

Parsons averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 47.2% from the field, 37.0% from beyond the arc and 74.2% from the free throw this season.
