Scott Van Slyke is officially a member of the hot foot victim fraternity. His Dodgers teammates got him on Sunday, though as you can see by the video, the prank almost didn’t come off thanks to some less-than-sticky bubble gum.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

It takes the Dodgers awhile, but they finally get the hot foot lit. Vin Scully narrates the hilarity as Van Slyke stands there completely clueless. Oh my God he thinks it’s his hat! This is the funniest thing since that guy got hit in the nuts by that object.

Eventually, Van Slyke realizes that his teammates have stuck some matches to the back of his shoe with gum and lit it on fire. Because they are baseball players and that’s what baseball players do.

A lot of people don’t know this, but the hot foot was actually invented by the ancient Romans, except in Roman times it involved actually hacking off a guy’s foot and setting it on fire. I’m just kidding. I have no idea when or where the hot foot was invented. I just know it is a dumb prank.

The Dodgers are in first place now, by the way, thanks to an epic collaspe by the Giants. The Dodgers don’t seem too worried about what place they’re in, or anything else. They are, if you’ll pardon the cliche, a loose bunch.
