Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus will have to appear in front of a judge in September on charges stemming from an accident that allegedly occurred while Dareus was involved in a street race.

More from Buffalo Bills

Dareus was in a town court in a suburb of Buffalo today where a judge set a September 9th date for Dareus to appear for a nonjury trial.

ESPN first reported the story, noting that Dareus was charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment due to crashing his 2012 Jaguar into a tree on May 30 while racing a teammate in a street race.

This is not the first run-in with the law for Dareus as a member of the Bills. In fact, only about a month earlier Dareus was arrested in Alabama and charged with drug paraphernalia and possession of synthetic marijuana.

According to his lawyer, there are ongoing plea discussions for the synthetic marijuana case. As of now, Dareus has not made any public comments regarding his latest issues with the law.

Dareus was the third overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft coming off a stellar collegiate career at the University of Alabama. Last year Dareus made the Pro Bowl for his first time as he racked in 71 combined tackles and 7 and a half sacks.

If Dareus hopes to keep his job in Buffalo for the coming years and help make the team an elite defensive force, he needs to find a way to stay out of trouble with the law. Having two run-ins with the law in about a month’s time frame is simply unacceptable.
