The Chicago Bulls are in the free agent trenches trying to land Carmelo Anthony before he takes another free agent meeting but it’s starting to look like Melo won’t be rushing into a decision about where to sign.

More from Chicago Bulls

According to Ian Bagley from ESPN.com, while there is hope in Chicago that the Bulls can land Melo this summer, there is also a sect of the front office who are pessimistic about the team’s chances of landing the All-Star as they fear Carmelo Anthony is going to head back to New York.

"As the Bulls prepared for their Tuesday meeting with Carmelo Anthony, some members of the team’s hierarchy were pessimistic about Chicago’s chances of landing Anthony.“They’re worried that he’s headed back to New York,” a source with knowledge of the team’s thinking said of early Tuesday morning. “They’re more pessimistic than optimistic. The source wasn’t speaking for the entire Chicago front office, just a small segment. So there is reason to believe that not all members of the team’s hierarchy shared this opinion."

This by no means is a sign the Bulls are pulling out of the running for Melo but what it does signal is that there isn’t a whole lot of hubris going around the Bulls front office when it comes to landing the Knicks star.

That being said, the whole Melo-to-Chicago deal is very far from being a slam dunk as it appears the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks will get their time with the free agent before he heads back to New York to hear a final pitch from the Knicks.
