Since Chris Johnson signed with the New York Jets this offseason, many folks have tried to make it abundantly clear that he will not be the featured back in the Big Apple, rather he’ll be splitting a good amount of time with backfield mate Chris Ivory.

Well, Johnson doesn’t seem to care too much for that idea, as he recently expressed that he plans to perform so well for the Jets’ offense this season that they’ll have no choice but to toss that idea of splitting the reps up right out the window.

“Once the season starts and once we’re playing and I’m doing my thing, I’m pretty sure if I’m making plays they’re going to want to keep handing the ball off to me,” Johnson said. “If they want me to continue making plays, I’m pretty sure I can’t do that if I’m on the sideline.”

He has a point there, logically, but the fact remains that he will have to keep himself healthy enough, plus show that spark that he had early on in his career that made him such a big name in the first place.

But he remains adamant that there will be no time share after a few weeks.

“I want to do the best thing to help the team,” said Johnson, who was doing promotional work with Mr. Clean during the World Cup match between the United States and Belgium. “That’s coming out here and making big plays week after week after week. As for the time share and all that, it won’t be an issue I’m pretty sure.
