The Houston Rockets have made no secret about their desire to sign either Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James or both during NBA free agency. However, center Dwight Howard previously suggested that he wouldn’t partake in the recruiting of either player. Why exactly, nobody knows, but it was a rather odd sentiment.

More from Houston Rockets

Whatever the case, Howard’s suggestion appears to no longer be valid as Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports says the All-Star will indeed be part of the Houston Rockets pitch to Carmelo Anthony when the two sides meet on Wednesday.

It’s not known if Howard will actually attempt to sell Carmelo Anthony on Space City (you’d assume he would do so) but his main reasoning for being in attendance during the meeting is to be available to answer player related questions. In short, if Carmelo Anthony has a question about how members of the Houston Rockets are treated by the front office, nightlife, etc, Dwight Howard will seemingly be his go to source.

Of course, I’m not exactly sure Dwight Howard is the guy you want answering those types of questions though it’s a little difficult to send James Harden to do the same task when his name has surfaced in potential sign-and-trade scenarios for Anthony.

In all likelihood, it’s doubtful that Howard’s inclusion (or even lack of) would be the swaying point for Carmelo Anthony’s decision and it’s nice to see that Howard had a change of heart from his previous stance.

Anthony is also scheduled to meet with the Dallas Mavericks in the next two days.
