There is likely no free agent drawing more interest this offseason than Detroit Pistons big man, Greg Monroe. Coveted by a handful of teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, Orlando Magic, Portland Trail Blazers and more, Monroe is set to cash in wherever he lands.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

If there is a plus for the Pistons, it’s that they essentially control the destiny of Greg Monroe considering the former Georgetown product is a restricted free agent. That will give the Pistons every right to match any offer he receives in free agency.

He’ll likely have no shortage of bidders as in addition to the previously mentioned teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers are also said to have interest in the power forward/center and are weighing their options in regards to making a bid of the young talent.

On the surface, it would be a bit of an odd fit considering the Cavaliers already have Anthony Bennett, though, in fairness they don’t exactly know how much they can rely on the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have plenty of cap space and Monroe would add to an already impressive young roster, but we don’t know if he’d be willing to sign with the Cavs or if they’d be willing to offer up a max contract which he is likely to demand.

I can’t imagine the Pistons would be overly thrilled to lose Greg Monroe, especially to a divisional rival however, so it should be interesting to see how the scenario unfolds in the coming days.
