The 2014 ESPY’s are being hosted by Young Money rapper and fair-weather sports fan Drake on Wednesday, July 16th. Just two weeks out, we got our first teaser for the event in a 30 second ad starring Drake, featuring music by Bastille.
There has been a lot of debate about how the rapper, crooner and actor will do as host of the show. Drake, who signed on with the Toronto Raptors to be a “Global Ambassador,” has often been the butt of sports jokes for his seemingly ever-changing sports fandom. Other incidents that have made him the butt of jokes in the sports world include being denied access to the Miami Heat locker room after they won the championship because he wasn’t media.
“This is an incredible opportunity for me to combine two of my biggest passions—sports and performing,” Drake said in a statement, via the Rolling Stone.
“Drake is an unbelievably talented entertainer who truly has a passion for sports. We are thrilled to have him to host this year’s show,” said Connor Schell, vice president, ESPN Films and Original Entertainment.
