Gasol and Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak met on Tuesday — which was the first day of free agency.
According to ESPN, the meeting lasted “for a few hours” and it was considered very productive.
The goal of the meeting was to let Gasol know the team was interested in retaining him before they have their face-to-face meeting with Carmelo Anthony. If the Lakers are able to retain Gasol, Anthony could be more interested in joining the franchise.
Of course, it appears that it is going to be difficult for any team other than the Chicago Bulls or New York Knicks to convince Anthony to join their franchise.
