When LeBron James decided to opt-out of his contract with the Miami Heat, he effectively told the front office that they needed to put a better product on the floor next season. Of course, that’s not exactly easy when you have $60 million dollars committed to three players, one of which is routinely injured.

More from Miami Heat

Regardless, that was the challenged bestowed upon the Miami Heat as NBA free agency began on Monday.

Multiple names were linked to the Heat including top targets like Kyle Lowry, Caron Butler, Marcin Gortat, Pau Gasol and more. However, none of those players have verbally committed to a contract as of right now (be it with the Heat or any other team) and according to Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio, the Heat are struggling to garner interest from difference making free agents.

Even with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all taking prospective dips in pay, the Miami Heat aren’t going to have a lot of cash left over. Add in the absurd contracts we’ve seen handed out to middle-of-the-road free agents and you can see why some of the second and third tier free agents aren’t rushing to sign up with the Heat despite four straight trips to the NBA Finals.

The most likely scenario for the Heat may be being forced to wait for players who either out priced themselves and need to find a team or to wait for veteran talents who don’t receive the type of interest they feel they should.
