Wednesday was a good day for Ohio State Buckeyes football and head coach Urban Meyer. The school received two verbal commitments from 5-star defensive players and it had a major impact on OSU’s standing in the national recruiting rankings.

Ohio State jumped up to No. 13 in the 247Sports team rankings and to No. 2 in the Big Ten rankings after defensive end Jashon Cornell and outside linebacker Justin Hilliard committed.
Hilliard is the No. 21-ranked overall recruit, the No. 2-ranked outside linebacker and the No. 1-ranked player in Ohio, while Cornell is the No. 37-rannked overall recruit, the No. 3-ranked weak side defensive end and the No. 1-ranked player in the state of Minnesota.
Hilliard believes highly in the Ohio State program and is looking to bring a national title to Columbus.
“Really the excitement around campus, especially being from Ohio” Hilliard said, via Bucknuts.com. “They’re a winning program. I believe a National Championship is coming for us. I’m really excited about that.”
Those two commitments make Ohio State a serious contender in the national recruiting race, as the Buckeyes jumped 12 spots in the team rankings and went from No. 4 to No. 2 in the Big Ten rankings.
All of this despite having just 12 commitments for the 2015 class.
OSU sits behind only Penn State, who is the No. 4-ranked school in the national rankings. However, Penn State does not have a commitment from a 5-star player in this class and it could eventually move them down the rankings.
Don’t expect this to be the last of the big additions for Ohio State either, as Cornell has big plans later this summer when he attends The Opening.
“I’m looking forward to going to The Opening (July 7-10) and recruiting Damien Harris, Matthew Burrell and Neville Gallimore, and get some more players up here,” Cornell reeled off to Bucknuts.com. “Neville Gallimore is my roommate at The Opening so I’m going to be in his ear 24/7, every time I’m in the room with him.
