The idea of LeBron James playing anywhere other than with the Miami Heat next season is questionable at best. But playing for the Phoenix Suns? That seems rather unlikely. Of course, it’s nothing against the Suns franchise but James seems to have a select handful of franchises he’d be willing to sign with and the Phoenix Suns don’t appear to be on that list.

More from LeBron James

Regardless, owner Robert Sarver isn’t buying that talk and he believes the Phoenix Suns have a ‘favorable opportunity‘ to sign the former MVP.

“We are in a good position,” he said. “We have a lot to offer, too, with the depth of our roster compared to some of the other teams. We think we have a favorable opportunity, but obviously he’ll make his decision when he wants to make it. He’s a smart player and a smart businessman. He’ll look at the facts and make a decision.”

While the Suns do have some tradeable assets to send the Miami Heat’s way if James was to bolt in free agency and a sign-and-trade scenario was needed, signing with the Suns just doesn’t seem to be a realistic option despite Sarver’s positive vibe.

As constructed, the Phoenix Suns roster isn’t championship quality and while the addition of LeBron James would put them in the Western Conference’s elite, would they be better than the San Antonio Spurs or Oklahoma City Thunder?

For now, LeBron James playing in the Valley of the Sun seems to be nothing more than a pipe dream though Mr. Sarver doesn’t seem ready to wake up just yet.
