Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva may have not got the fight he was clamoring for, but he will get to fight in the place he was begging to fight.
After a back and forth war of words with UFC heavyweight Josh Barnett, Silva will instead face former UFC Heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski as the two main event the upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Brasilia, Brazil in September. The bout was originally reported by Combate.
This won’t be the first time the two heavyweights have locked horns, as Silva and Arlovski competed in 2010 while in Strikeforce. Silva was the victor in the bout, earning the win via unanimous decision.
Silva, who is best known for his huge upset victories over the likes of Fedor Emielianenko and Alistair Overeem, came up short in his quest for the UFC Heavyweight title, as he lost to champion Cain Velasquez last year. However, Silva had a rebound of sorts, as he went to a draw with Mark Hunt, in what many consider the top fight in UFC Heavyweight history. The bout was later changed to a no contest after Silva failed a drug test. His subsequent suspension will expire five days before the bout.
Arlovski recently returned to the UFC after a six year hiatus, and was victorious in a controversial split decision bout over Brendan Schaub.
