New York Knicks’ free agent forward Carmelo Anthony has been quite busy.
Anthony, who opted out of his contract and is now an unrestricted free agent. First up, Anthony visited the Chicago Bulls. He toured the Bulls’ facilities and while he was there, he even got to watch star point guard Derrick Rose work out. The health of the former MVP will obviously way heavily into the decision of any free agent interested in joining the Bulls. He also went out to dinner with Bulls’ big men Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson, head coach Tom Thibodeau, general manager Gar Forman and owner Jerry Reinsdorf.
Then, it was off to Texas where Anthony listened to a pitch led by Houston Rockets’ general manager Daryl Morey. Morey stressed Houston was the closest to a title because they already have two stars in guard James Harden and center Dwight Howard. Anthony also met with both Harden and Howard in private. Next, he met with the Dallas Mavericks and owner Mark Cuban in a small meeting that was hidden from the media.
On Thursday, Anthony met with the Los Angeles Lakers and will be remaining out west to meet with the Knicks – both president Phil Jackson and head coach Derek Fisher still have homes in Los Angeles.
Anthony is reportedly undecided and has an “open mind.” According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Anthony is going to take the weekend to think about what all of the teams he met with have to offer before making a decision.
Anthony put up 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game and shot 45.2% from the field, 40.2% from beyond the arc and 84.8% from the free throw line last season.
