In one of the first reported moves during the Cavs’ free agency, they agreed to terms with Kyrie Irving on a maximum extension, worth $90 million over five years. While it’s of paramount importance to keep your superstars, extending Irving may have further reaching effects — it could bring LeBron James home.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

It’s been almost full four years since James left Cleveland for for South Beach, via the public relations disaster known as “The Decision.” Now, James has another decision to make, as an unrestricted free agent. The Cleveland Cavaliers have been one of the teams rumored to be in the running for LeBron and there’s a significant chance that James could return to Ohio.

Before we get into the reasons why LeBron could decide to come home — let’s not forget that Irving is a bonafide star in the making. He averaged 20.8 points per game with the Cavs in 2013-14, to go along with 3.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.5 steals. James has never played with an elite point guard and would welcome the flexibiliy of not having to be the main playmaker over the course of the season.
