World Cup: Julian Green praises 'incredible' US fans

Youngster Julian Green didn’t play until the final minutes of the United States men’s national team’s World Cup run, when they were trailing 2-0 in extra time. Green came onto the field and immediately had an impact scoring a goal off a volley with his first touch for an incredible goal.

That goal breathed hope and life back into a team that was ready to give up and concede the win to Belgium. After the tournament ended, Green praised the United States fans in Brazil in a column he wrote for Bild.

“I was a bit nervous, but it was more like a positive tension because I was looking forward to making an appearance,” Green wrote.

“What happened was unbelievable — I scored with my first touch. But I had no time to celebrate… I wanted the match to continue so we could score the equaliser.

“Sadly, it did not work out. But I think that we played a great World Cup. We played passionate football and were outstanding representatives for our country worldwide.

“Our fans in Brazil were incredible. Every match was like a home match. And we also witnessed the enthusiasm in the United States and all over the world.”

Green gives the Americans a lot to look forward too in future tournaments, and we’ve only seen a little of him.
