NHL free agency seems to have died down for this year but that doesn’t mean that next season’s crop of potential free agents aren’t already being eyed by teams who may want to pursue them.
Two of the top free agents that will hit the market in the next few years are Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane but there isn’t a likely chance that either will hit the market anytime soon if the Blackhawks have anything to say about it.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Blackhawks fans shouldn’t expect a deal for Patrick Kane or Jonathan Toews to be done before the weekend and it may take a little longer than that.
But that date has come and gone and a source said Thursday that the extensions are not expected to be completed until sometime after the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Bowman said Tuesday that negotiations between the Hawks and Pat Brisson, the agent for both players, on the contracts that would kick in for the ’15-16 season were “ongoing.”
This really isn’t a situation that many Hawks fans will be fretting about as there is going to be deals done for the two Chicago stars and there is no way that either one is going to be allowed to his the open market.
