The long-awaited John Cena heel turn is finally happening. But, unfortunately for WWE fans, it won’t be in the squared circle.
It has been confirmed by Deadline that John Cena has been set to portray a villainous character in an upcoming film, The Nest. The film will star Saturday Night Live standouts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and will be directed by Pitch Perfect’s Jason Moore, with the script being wrote by Paula Pell.
The Nest stars Fey and Poehler as two estranged sisters who decide to throw a last party at their house which their parents are about to sell. While Cena’s character details have not officially been announced, the site says that it will in fact be a villainous turn and makes note that this would be his first time playing a bad guy, either in the ring or on the big screen, in over twelve years.
The film will release on December 18th, 2015 the same day as Star Wars: Episode VII.
John Cena has also been confirmed for a July 2015 release produced and directed by Judd Apatow called Trainwreck. The film will star the likes of Amy Shumer, Bill Hader, Brie Larson, and Colin Quinn, and will feature cameos by Method Man and Lebron James.
