Orlando Magic waive Jason Maxiell

The Orlando Magic have already traded guard Arron Afflalo parted ways with veteran point guard Jameer Nelson, waived guard Doron Lamb and decided to let guard E’Twaun Moore walk in free agency.

On Wednesday, the Magic officially waived one of Nelson’s backups, Ronnie Price with the indication veteran big man Jason Maxiell would be next.

On Friday, the Magic officially waived Maxiel and announced it via a press release.

"Orlando, FL — The Orlando Magic have waived forward Jason Maxiell, General Manager Rob Hennigan announced today.Maxiell played in 34 games (13 starts) last season with the Magic, averaging 3.2 ppg. and 2.5 rpg. in 14.4 minpg.  He scored in double figures three times, including a season-high 12 points on Nov. 9 @ Atlanta and Dec. 3 @ Philadelphia.Originally selected by Detroit in the first round (26th overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft by Detroit, Maxiell appeared in 557 career NBA regular season games (188 starts) with Detroit and Orlando, averaging 5.9 ppg. and 4.3 rpg. in 18.9 minpg., whileshooting .501 (1,317-2,631) from the floor.  He was signed as a free agent by Orlando on Jul. 18, 2013."

The Magic have been very busy, acquiring several players (or at least agreeing to acquire them). The Magic landed swingman Evan Fournier and the 56th-overall pick in last week’s draft, which wound up being former Iowa Hawkeyes’ guard Roy Devyn Marble. Former Arizona Wildcats’ forward Aaron Gordon was the fourth-overall pick. Then, the Magic traded the rights to the 12th-overall selection, Croatian forward Dario Saric and a future pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for the rights to the 10th-overall pick, former Louisiana Lafayette Ragin Cajuns’ point guard Elfrid Payton. They have since claimed guard Willie Green off waivers from the Los Angeles Clippers and agreed to a deal with guard Ben Gordon.
