The latest off-field incident involving troubled Cleveland Browns receiver, Josh Gordon, could be the final straw in the career of the talented, yet troubled Pro Bowler who led the NFL in receiving last season.

More from College Football

Gordon was arrested in North Carolina on charges he was driving while impaired and was already facing a yearlong suspension for another failed drug test. He was suspended for the first two games of last season for a failed drug test for smoking marijuana and this led some to believe his career may be over.

If they thought he career was over then, certainly those fears have been exacerbated following this arrest that led one anonymous Browns player to call Gordon “a memory.’

It is unfortunate that this could be the legacy of Gordon in the NFL.

Think how impressive it is to lead the NFL in receiving. Now think how difficult it is to lead the league in any category after missing two games of the season. For the real kicker, think how difficult it is to lead the league in receiving with Brandon Weeden, Brian Hoyer and Jason Campbell throwing the ball to you.

Gordon has made his fair share of mistakes, even dating back to his time at Baylor where his failed drug tests resulted in him having to declare for the supplemental draft, but he has not shown the ability to learn from his past mistakes to allow for a future in the NFL.

If this is the end for Gordon, the fleeting memories of Gordon catching passes in Cleveland will fade as quickly as his NFL career disappeared.
