Josh Donaldson has absolutely no regard for his personal safety on this one. He goes running full speed toward the rolled-up tarp on the third base side in Oakland, trying to get a pop foul, and makes the catch while smashing right into the tarp.

More from MLB

To be a third baseman in Oakland, you almost have to have outfielder skills. That’s how massive the foul territory is. Josh Donaldson combines an outfielder’s ball-chasing ability with the complete insanity of a hard-hitting NFL safety.

I’m not sure I would want Donaldson running into tarps, were I the Oakland A’s, but I would certainly appreciate the overall attitude. Nothing says “I care about my team” like the willingness to smash your body, with all its breakable bones and tearable muscles and tendons, into large unyielding objects.

Jeff Samardzija will be happy to have guys like that playing behind him when he takes the mound for his first Oakland start on Sunday.

Gold star for you Josh Donaldson. I hope you enjoyed some quality time in the tub after that one. I’m guessing you were a tad sore.
