The Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as serious contenders for Carmelo Anthony or LeBron James, even both potentially. According to Ramon Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles, the Lakers made a “strong impression“on Anthony and James.

"The Lakers’ pitch — of teaming Anthony with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and prized rookie Julius Randle on a team with no long-term salary obligations — made what one source described as a “strong impression” on Anthony and has made his decision over the holiday weekend “tough,” according to another source close to the situation.Los Angeles met with LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul on Friday, and the four-time MVP is giving similar consideration to what the Lakers have to offer, according to sources."

While trying to attract either one, forward/center Pau Gasol has been used as a selling point to sign with the Lakers. Gasol would be thrilled to stay in Los Angeles, but if they can’t bring one of those “big fish” free agents to the Lakers, Gasol is looking at joining up with other contenders potentially.
