The 6-3.5, 219-pound Thomas is the nation’s No. 159 player regardless of position, the No. 11 outside linebacker and the No. 16 player in the Peach State, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Thomas is competing at Nike’s “The Opening” at the Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon this week and when he arrives home he will visit the Crimson Tide and is undecided about visiting Florida for the Friday Night Lights event.
The Gators are believed to be the favorite for the standout linebacker with 96 percent of the crystal ball predictions on 247Sports in favor of Florida with the remaining four percent for the Georgia Bulldogs who have been ruled out along with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
According to ESPN’s Gerry Hamilton, if Thomas’ mother has any influence in his decision on where to play his college football and continue his education, it will be Florida when he announces on Aug. 1.
If Thomas goes against his mom’s wishes and commits to Alabama, it wouldn’t be the first time a recruit went with his heart and not with the family, however, it would be a damaging blow to Florida.
The Gators did not take a commitment from any linebackers in the 2014 class and have zero commitments thus far in the 2015 class, although, so securing the commitment from Thomas is imperative for D.J. Durkin and Will Muschamp.
