The New York Knicks are trying to get answers out of Carmelo Anthony when it comes to where he plans on continuing his basketball career but so far there has been no word despite a decision supposedly coming down by Monday.
Perhaps Melo just took a long holiday weekend to decide but there is some doubt now as to just how committed he is to Knicks as the uneasiness the team is feeling seems to be grounded in a very real possible outcome.
According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, there is a fear within the Knicks front office that Melo is holding off on committing where he wants to play because he’s trying to team up with LeBron James in either Los Angeles or Miami.
The Knicks expected Carmelo Anthony’s decision by Monday, but heard only crickets. A growing belief within the organization is Anthony is waiting to make sure there is no possible way of hooking up with LeBron James in Miami or Los Angeles.
Like LeBron returning to Cleveland was viewed a few months ago, the idea of Carmelo Anthony joining the Miami Heat was laughed off when it was brought up during the NBA Finals. But with Chris Bosh mulling a max contract offer from the Houston Rockets and Dwyane Wade as expendable as he’s ever been, the idea of using the remaining Big 3 money to pair LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony suddenly makes a lot of sense.
That’s not to say it’s happening or that’s the reason he’s waiting to give anyone an answer, but as the deadline nears it’s becoming more and more clear that Melo has more options on the table than previously thought.
