Give me a great red wine and a happy man I will be. I love drinking wine but nothing goes with wine quite the way Game of Thrones does. A dark room, family in bed, the pop of the cork and the pour into the perfect glass. I mean come on it seems wine is prevalent in every scene of the popular HBO series so whey shouldn’t it be at home?
Now you can get a taste of Westeros with the Game of Thrones inspired ‘Wines of Westeros‘ collection.
Common Ventures has created wines influenced by the hit television series. How exactly they taste and what exactly influenced the 12 wines is anyone’s guess. Their are six white wines, The Greyjoy, The Arryn, The Stark, The Tyrell, The Wildling, and naturally The White Walker. The reds are named The Lannister, The Baratheon, The Night’s Watch, The Dothraki, The Targaryen, and the Martell.
An introduction on the website channels your inner Westerosi.
A mind needs wine as a sword needs a whetstone. Whether it’s a bottle from beyond the wall or a case from the cellars of the Iron Bank, keep your mind fit for the death of summer with the lion’s share of vino. Have a wench fetch a goblet, reject all wedding invitations and settle down for a long, harsh winter.
12 houses. 12 temptations. Where does your loyalty lie?
Each label is designed to represent each of the houses and others with careful creations to resemble each of the houses banners without actually using the banner symbols.
“The reds are all associated with the houses that are headstrong and robust. The whites, on the other hand, are more cunning, perceptive and mysterious,” said Jane Burhop of Common Ventures, the agency behind the wines.
The site is currently up and running but ordering information has not yet been made available but the Australian wines are expected to be ready for the start of season 5. The cost should run around $14.00 per bottle.
Houses Arryn, Greyjoy and Stark are sauvignon blancs, while the Lannister and Baratheon families get pinot noirs and the houses of Tyrell and Martell are a chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon respectively. The Dothraki tribes are represented by a deep merlot, while House Targaryen and the Night’s Watch are shirazes,” according to this article in The Independent.
