When the Dallas Mavericks traded for New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler, one of the benefits was his friendship with coveted free agent Carmelo Anthony. While the Mavericks had to wait until July to talk to Carmelo about him moving to Dallas, Chandler could praise and talk up the Mavs beforehand.

Part of that trade that bought Chandler to Dallas also brought point guard Raymond Felton, another former Knicks teammate of Anthony. Felton said he has done his part and talked to Anthony about joining the Mavericks without getting into specifics.

“If I can convince that man to do that, that would be great,” Felton said via a Tuesday afternoon conference call, via Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We’ve talked a few times.

“Like I said, I can’t really give his information out like that. That’s the whole process that he’s going through.”

Felton added: “Like I told him before , I would love to play with him, it would be great. He’s been my friend since high school.

“But Carmelo’s got to do what’s best for Carmelo. And only he’s going to make that whole decision by himself.”

Unfortunately, it seems like the Mavericks are out of the running even though that hasn’t been officially announced yet. Most insiders don’t have the Mavericks on the contenders for Anthony on the moment.
