On a day in which the biggest NBA free agency headlines centered around whether or not LeBron James would be heading back to Cleveland or not, the biggest splash was made this afternoon when it was reported by the New York Daily News that Carmelo Anthony would indeed be staying with the New York Knicks.

After meeting with a few teams since the free agency period opened up, the Knicks were the last team to meet with their star, and they reportedly offered him a max deal worth in the are of $129 million, a deal that was apparently too good to pass up.
Knicks fans must be ecstatic that one of the best players in the league will be sticking with them for the next few seasons, huh? Well, they shouldn’t get their hopes up too high about that because, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, there could be a catch to this whole scenario. That catch being that Melo will sign the deal with Phil Jackson and the Knicks to get paid, but he could demand to be traded at a later date.
So basically, Melo holds all the cards in his hands. If he sees that the Knicks are nowhere near improving in the coming seasons, then he’ll demand to be sent to a place like Chicago with Derrick Rose and the Bulls, or Houston with Dwight Howard, James Harden and the Rockets.
