Thursday’s 12-game MLB slate offers fantasy owners with some tough choices if you decide to hit the waiver wire for pitching pickups.  With the way rotations fall, the best options are fairly universally owned and the pitchers that are on the wire all carry risk for one reason or another. Check below and the next few slides for the four I think are worth a look for their scheduled Thursday outings.

Whenever you are planning on hitting the wire for starting pitching, check out my daily options which appear right here on Fansided (archive here) most afternoons. You can bookmark the archive page or follow me on twitter for links to the daily posts of options to pick up.  Here are the basic ground rules: recent results are on the final slide of this post, and my choices are always available in at least half of ESPN leagues when I pick them (each player’s ownership percentage is included in parentheses after their team name).  I also include a risk and reward ranking for each selection on a scale of 1-5 with five being the most risk and the most reward.

Here are the top options for Thursday, July 10:

Bartolo Colon-New York Mets (38.8%)

Despite what his last couple starts would indicate, Colon is worth a look as he takes the mound Thursday for the Mets against their NL East division rival Atlanta Braves.

Colon’s given up 10 runs in 13 innings his last two times out dropping to 8-7 with a 4.04 ERA. However, the signs that a rebound start is possible are definitely there. First, he’ll be pitching at Citi Field where he’s 4-3 in seven starts this year with a 2.72 ERA (comparatively: 4-4, 5.06 ERA on the road). He also has pitched well against Atlanta this season going 1-1 but with a 1.93 ERA allowing three runs in 14 total innings.

There isn’t a no-risk option widely available, but Colon is probably the lowest risk available based on matchup.

Risk-3, Reward-4
